Toronto Maple Leafs Draft HIstory Blunders

I've been meaning to do this for quite a while now, just like I've been meaning to write a book on why being a leaf fan is a small step down from slavery. Fortunately for me and other leaf fans Burky is now on board and thing are inevitably looking up. I still think it's important to look back at the legecy of inepness esspecially when it came to everything but specifically when it came to the draft.

this the leaf draft histoy since my birth in 1981, untill 2001. After each leaf pick and where that pick was taken, i've made a small list of players that came after the leaf pick in the draft.

if your a leaf fan i would suggest that you make time to read this when no one else is around to hear or see you. i cried from 1984 on.

1981 - 1st RD 6th pick - Jim Benning

grant fehr, al macinnis, chris chelios, mike vernon, john vambiesbrouck

1982 - 1st rd 3rd pick - Gary Nylund

scott stevens, phil housely, dave andreychuk, ron hextal, tony granato, doug gilmour

1983 - 1st rd 7th pick - russ courtnall

cam neely, kevin steveens, gary galley, dominc hasek, rick tocchet, tretiak

1984 - 1st rd 4th pick - al iafrate

shane corson, gary roberts, patrick roy, brett hull, luc robitaille, stephane richer

LET IT OUT FRIENDS

1985 - 1st rd 1st pick - wendal clark

igor larianov, and bill ranford

someone i know crapped on this pick the other day, and i rememeber trying to talk myslef into this being a bad pick but i couldn't. Wendel was our Neely, without the smooth hands. I guess Wendal was our Wendal. We hung up his jersey for god sakes, the mans a beekon of light in a sea of darkness.

1985 - 1st rd 6th pick - Vincent Damphousse

brian leetch, adam graves, teppo numminen, darren turcotte

1987 - 1st rd 7th pick - luke richardson

joe sakic, john leclair, eric desjardins, matthieu shnieder

1988 - 1st rd 6th pick - scott pearson

1991 - leafs traded both 1st and second round picks

with the leafs first rounder NJ got Niedermayer

1992 - 1st rd 8th pick - brandon convery

sergi gonchar, martin straka, valerie bure, adrian aucoin, khabibulin, jere lehtinen

1993 - 1st rd 12th pick - kenny jonsson

1996 - 2nd rd 36th pick - marek posmyk

zdeno chara, tom poti, mark parrish, pavel kubina

NOTE: The leafs did pick Kaberle with the 208th pick

1997 - traded 1st rd 4th pick to NYI who picked Luongo

marian hossa, brian campbell

1998 - 1st rd 10th pick - nic antropov

alex tanquy, simon gagne, scott gomez, andre markov, cheecho, horcoff, datsyuk went #171

after 2001 it's alot harder to gauge whose done well in the draft. some of these dudes who went in the first round a couple years ago are still trying to hash it out in the AHL.

some names that we did miss ove the past 6 years...

Shes weber, ryan kesler, mike richards, corey perry, mike green, milan lucic, andrew cogliano, peal stastney, steve mason

since 2001 we've taken tukka rask, and jiri tlusjy

my brackets a little bit busted

all i really wanted was to beat Obama, Samuel l Jackson, and D Wade, and so far so good. Purdue got me good but i still think it's Pitt and Cuse on the other side.

pretty sure I'm still mathematically alive

Your 2009 NBA MVP...

Lebron...bron.

He's funny, he's talented, him numbers reek of Oscar Roberson.

and most importantly the Cleveland Cavaliers have clinch the central division for only the second time in their history, with 17 games to go.

Kobe is amazing D wade is making a sweet sweet late push but even if they sit and rest bron bron untill the playoffs he should still be the The MVP. Odds i imagine are with Wade, seeing as how NBA MVP voting usually goes the way of the "whodeservesitatthistime?"

when i get these shoes i'ma gonna school all yall's ass's...boom thou!

The Death Of Funny Conan?

I have a sinking feeling he won't be able to get away with as much when he moves to 11:30, but the good news is apparently Andy will be back.

KG keeps it real with Craig Sager

I never thought i'd see the day...

Burger King Mini Burgers are back!

The only thing better than this right now in my life would be White Castle opening at Dupont and Lansdowne.

Back in the day after hockey practice i would drive my parents absolutely bear shit mental by simply whining about mini burgers. If either of my folks sees this new commercial (not the one posted here) they could both kill themselves from the memory of my bitching alone.

this is one of the greatest moments of my life

i almost crapped all over the place...

And the look on Anderson Varejao's face says Lebron may also have left a little nugg nugg. Watch closely at the start you can see when Lebron walks up to sit down, he basically drops this right in Varejao's face.

Once in high school i had about 15 people in the wreck room of my parents house, and while i was sitting on the floor my friend Kyle stepped right across me with his ass in my face. He paused right at the exact moment when his hoop was right in front on the tip of my nose and let one rip. Still one of the strangest sensations my bodies every been a part of i actually felt the air on my nose, and i swear to god with a second and a half delay...then i heard it. if i can get that story to a sentence of two it's going on my grave stone.

those crazy russians

for the record these were two of many, videos on the interweb of animals being forced to play sports. I was going to crack a "check out the leafs practice feed from yesterday," but that seems madly insensitive now. not that i'm the king of sensitivity but...i do really like bears.

That was wicked awkward, said Dave

More proof that he's trying to pull some Kaufman type deal...i think, but those be huge boots to fill. It was kind of funny but i can't really tell if Dave is in on the joke or not.

Good luck, maybe his brothers death was fake too.

right around the corner

i think yesterday, or today not sure but pitchers and catchers reported to spring training.

welcome back baseball!

awesomeland awaits you

the good old days indeed...i wish i still had G.I.Joes

i think this sucks, but i'm not totally sure yet...

First Boomer taking some liberties with the English language while off air. Looks like their trying to write that fastest three minutes segment from the Monday nighters.

Secondly on the Jones today they were previewing the upcoming NBA all star weekend, and discussing the dunk contest. They mentioned replacement dunker for this year J.R. Smith's dunk from the contest a couple years ago as being one of the most underrated dunk contest dunks that no one talks about.

you decide, but it looks pretty damn smooth to me.

The Basketball Jones

That time of year again. Football done for another year, hockey bores old Canadians to death, and competitive baseball is still a few months out. It's time for the NBA to shine, and as far as i can tell it's the strongest the league has been since the MJ era. Between King James, Kobe, D Wade, and a slew of young talent peppered across both conferences, it might also be the most competitive professional basketball seen in some years

The Basketball Jones is a really great short podcast/video blog running Monday to Friday, that covers everything NBA. Usually quite funny it's a good quick shot of vitamin B...ball.

whats wrong with pink and purple?

not good blog colors...or so i'm told.

Steve Coogan is God.

i did want to post something from saxondale but the internet wouldn't let me. so heres the first part of The Parole Officer starring Mr. Coogan the rest of the movie is available in 9 parts on you tube.

if you like this and get a chance, do yourself a favor and seek out Saxondale like i said also starring Steve Coogan. it's a BBC series that as far as i know only had two season that are both extremly hilarious.
